Why Visit Eleuthera?

Eleuthera, a 110-mile-long island in the Bahamas, is known for its pink sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and laid-back atmosphere. Rich in history, Eleuthera was first settled in the 1600s by the Eleutheran Adventurers, a group of English Puritans seeking religious freedom. The island’s name, derived from the Greek word for “freedom,” perfectly reflects its tranquil and unspoiled beauty. With world-class snorkeling, fishing, and stunning natural attractions, Eleuthera offers the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation for every traveler.

Getting There: Flights to Eleuthera

Eleuthera is accessible via two main airports: North Eleuthera International Airport (ELH) and Governor’s Harbour International Airport (GHB). North Eleuthera offers more flight options from the U.S. with major airlines such as American Airlines, Delta, and United providing service from hubs like Miami, Charlotte, Fort Lauderdale, and Atlanta. If you’re staying further south on the island, flying into Governor’s Harbour may be more convenient, as it reduces drive time to your accommodation. Both airports have rental car services and taxis available, making it easy to get to your destination.

Accommodations: Great Places to Stay in Eleuthera

While our itinerary is based on a stay at The Cove, one of our favorite resorts, there are several other fantastic accommodation options on the island which we also recommend:

French Leave Resort (Governor’s Harbour)

Located in Governor’s Harbour, French Leave Resort is an upscale beachfront property offering luxurious villas with stunning ocean views. Part of the Marriott Autograph Collection, the resort features a private pink sand beach, an infinity pool, and a top- rated restaurant serving fresh Bahamian cuisine. The location in Governor’s Harbour provides easy access to local shops, restaurants, and attractions like Leon Levy Native Plant Preserve and Twin Cove Beach.

Potlatch Club

For a more intimate and exclusive experience, Potlatch Club offers a unique boutique- style stay. This historic property, set on a pristine stretch of pink sand beach, blends modern comforts with Bahamian charm. Guests can enjoy beachfront cottages, a private setting, and close proximity to Governor’s Harbour’s vibrant dining scene. It’s an ideal choice for those looking for a peaceful, upscale retreat.

Vacation Rentals in Rainbow Bay

vacation rental is a great way to enjoy more space, privacy, and flexibility during your stay on Eleuthera. It’s an especially good option for families or groups, allowing you to cook your own meals—perfect if you plan on fishing or picking up fresh seafood from a local market.

We recommend Rainbow Bay as a top location for vacation rentals for several reasons:

  • Stunning Natural Beauty – The area boasts beautiful beaches, excellent snorkeling spots, and breathtaking sunset views.

  • Central Location – Rainbow Bay is conveniently located between North Eleuthera Airport and Governor’s Harbour, making it easy to explore both ends of the island.

  • Proximity to Attractions – Staying here allows for easy day trips north to Spanish Wells and Harbour Island, while also being just a short drive south to Governor’s Harbour’s restaurants and nightlife.

  • Waterfront Access – Many rentals in Rainbow Bay are right on the water, providing direct access for swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding right from your backyard.

No matter where you choose to stay, Eleuthera offers incredible experiences, stunning scenery, and warm Bahamian hospitality that will make your trip unforgettable!
